Sardinia is an island that is a part of Italy and is the second largest island in the Mediterranean sea. Sardinia is surrounded by the French island of Corsica, the Italian Peninsula, Tunisia, and the Balearic Islands. Sardina, like Friuli-Venezia Guilia, has a regional autonomy that is provided by the government of Italy. Cagliari is the capital of Sardania and the total population of this region is about 1.6 million people.
The coasts of Sardania are rocky and high, sometimes having deep bays and inlets. The coastlines are full of fish and shell fish. There runs a large mountain range in the center of the island of Sardania named Gennargentu and there are many plains of fertile lands and plateaus in Campidano, Nurra and between Oristano and Cagliari. Sardania also has small rivers out of which Tirso is a major one and Lake Baratz is the only lake that provides natural freshwater. Wheat is grown in large quantities in summer and most of the island resembles golden fields in the summer.
Sardania is an adventurer’s paradise, it can have the most expensive restaurants in one hand an the most primitive ones on the other. Public transport is unreliable and very slow. Many people come for stealing some quite time for themselves in this small but beautiful island, so most of the time the ferries and planes are packed of visitors. The landscape of the Costa Smeralda is one of the most beautiful seaside landscapes in the world. Numerous small, enchanting islets are scattered and mentioned in front of the coasts. The Emerald Coast has long been frequented by royal families, millionaires and movie stars.
Sardania has a lot of prehistoric ruins which are worth seeing. An old civilization, most probably the Sardi civilization built nuraghe which are the traditional truncated cone towers built up of huge stones and are fortified dwellings. About 7000 still remain to be seen. The “Tombs of the Giants”; the houses of the witches called “domus dejanas” and tombs dug into the rocks from the prehistoric times can be found at many places o the island of Sardania. There is a folk festival held in Sardania every month that is colorful, musical, joyous and serves free food! Carnivals adorn its streets, mouth watering aroma of rich home-made Italian food fills the air and the people celebrate their traditions and religious festivals in the most musical and colorful way.
